EatB4 is developing a Food Distribution Platform that will enhance the food bank network through a digital solution.
Our project focuses on developing the food bank network through innovative digital solutions, with the goal of rescuing quality food in larger quantities and reaching as many people in need as possible, close to their homes. The aim of this project is to create an efficient food distribution platform that improves the operations of food banks by reducing food waste and optimizing logistics. The project supports the general objective of the Estonian Welfare Development Plan 2023-2030 by helping to reduce inequality and poverty, and by providing people with opportunities for a better quality of life.
Key Project Activities
The digital food distribution platform will significantly improve the efficiency of food collection and distribution processes. This includes several key aspects:
- Improved Logistics and Inventory Management: The platform enables better tracking of food inventories and their quality, reducing waste and ensuring that food reaches the right place at the right time.
- Optimized Transport and Logistics Planning: The platform helps to optimize the routes and collection schedules for food donations, reducing transport costs and ensuring fast and efficient food distribution. Pre-planned logistics could result in an estimated 10% savings in fuel and logistics vehicle costs.
- Traceability and Reporting: The digital solution enhances transparency throughout the food donation chain, providing accurate reporting and tracking. This helps to reduce food waste and improve food safety.
Benefits of Digitalization
Through digitalization, paper delivery notes issued by stores will be eliminated, and the time spent by volunteers on data entry will be redirected towards food distribution. Each food collection round could save up to 2 hours of work time, thereby improving the overall process efficiency.
Conclusion
This project marks an important step in enhancing the operations of Estonian food banks and better serving those in need. The adoption of digital solutions not only reduces food waste but also helps to optimize the entire food distribution process, making it faster, more accurate, and more transparent. As a result, food banks will be better equipped to reach a larger number of people in need.
The Ministry of Social Affairs has supported this project with €150,000.
